You'd better pick this one carefully in the rental store if you're a guy because if you're planning a raucous DVD evening with the boys, this movie is going to make them lock you up in the loony bin pronto.

It will, however, score you a few points on the sensitivity scale with your girlfriend / sister / mom.

For the ladies, however, there's quite a bit to like about this tale of a Jersey girl following her dreams to live in the Big Apple. Her dreams don't exactly follow the path she thought they would, but she does get to explore high society of New York ? as a nanny.

It's not a particularly original story, to say the least, and it's not an acting or directing masterpiece, but it's quirky and warm enough to elicit at least some giggles and leave you with a warm feeling afterwards.

The guys will drool over Scarlet Johansson as the titular nanny, while the girls get treated to Chris Evans ('Fantastic Four'). Enough eye candy, in other words.

Paul Giamatti ('Sideways') and Laura Linney ('Love Actually') as the nanny's employers, Mr and Mrs X, are suitably neurotic and materialistic high-flying New Yorkers.

Clearly inspired by 'Mary Poppins', 'The Nanny Diaries' is not Shakespeare, but I've seen much, much worse. Rent it if you're in the mood for something light.
