The band picked up the prize after making a lasting impression in their 10-minute, two-song set at the London Astoria on Tuesday. A band from Spain took first prize.
?We are over the moon,? said the bands vocalist Cito, shortly after the announcement was made.
?The reaction we got from the capacity crowd at the Astoria was awesome. I feel extremely proud having achieved what we did...,? said Cito.
?It is wonderful proving to the world that South Africa has some great musical talent,? he added.
The band chose to play ?Jafta Rebe?l followed by ?Something Wrong? which according to Bill Botes from Emerging Sounds, whom had accompanied the band to London, got the crowd on their feet.
?It was amusing when we arrived in London, because the UK bands in the finals had all heard of Wonderboom and I got the impression these bands were slightly afraid of the South African competition,? said Botes.
