Washington wasn’t actually fired, as such; he’s just failed to have his contract renewed after it ran out at the end of filming for season three (coming this month to us here in SA). So, enjoy Dr. Preston Burke while you can — looks as if there’ll be no more of him after this season.

I’m sure there will be much, much more of Lindsay Lohan in the world of celeb gossip — even while she’s in rehab, it seems, since she’s reportedly been slagging off all and sundry in there (mainly the celebutantes she hangs out with, like Paris and Nicole).

The US’ Los Angeles Confidential magazine interviewed Linds just before she crashed her car and entered Promises, though, and quotes her as saying that: “The real hard thing about L.A. is that it's all about one thing. Everyone always wants something.”

“This industry is very lonely; I tend to get very lonely. When it's a Sunday and no one's around, and you see no cars go by, it's a challenge.” Yet so many people keep flocking to LA to become just like Lindsay.

And her mum’s hardly making her life better. As well as attracting even more press by trying to launch Lindsay’s two younger siblings into the world of showbiz through a new reality show, Dina Lohan is now also facing accusations that she’s lied about many of her apparent accomplishments — such as a stint dancing with The Rockettes.

Says a source to The New York Post: “It's like claiming to have a degree from Harvard when you don't. It's a big deal to be a Rockette...

"Look in SAG [Screen Actors Guild]; look in AFTRA [American Federation of Television & Radio Artists] — Dina isn't a member... She never did a Broadway show. She never did ads.”

Harvard will welcome the comparison, I’m sure.

On a much jollier note — though it looks as if the imminent arrival of Baby Spice Emma Bunton’s own baby has scuppered hopes of the Spice Girls performing at the upcoming Princess Diana Memorial Concert — there are reportedly plans for the fab five to release a new album and do a world tour!

“Geri and Emma have been in the studio writing new material,” reveals an insider, “and they want to do a worldwide tour.” According to another source, “plans are afoot for later in the year. It all depends on Simon Fuller. He is the mastermind.”

“It's hard to get something as pop-laden as their first hit, ‘Wannabe’, but one of the new songs is heading that way and it has far more funk in it than the ballads before the band split.”

Who can wait till the end of the year for pop’s greatest group to reform? I, for one, will be camping outside the ticket office.

And, finally, staying with the Spice Girls — word is that Mel B will at last get the chance to prove to the world that Eddie Murphy really is the father of her child (or face very public embarrassment), as both she and Murphy are submitting DNA samples to an LA court to determine the paternity of Mel’s daughter Angel.

Eddie still says that he may well not be the dad, claiming that Mel B went on holiday with another guy during the period of their relationship, which he maintains wasn’t exclusive.
