With Valentine's Day coming up, we decided to take a look at some of our favourite Hollywood power couples - from superstar pairings to romances that have stood the test of time.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Six kids, two extremely successful Hollywood careers, a number of charitable and humanitarian projects and a jet-setting lifestyle... We're not sure how Brad and Angelina make it work, but they do. They've been dating since 2005 and announced their engagement last year - and now the world is holding its breath for their wedding.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
Despite their 25-year age difference, Michael and Catherine have a solid marriage and two children together. The couple tied the knot in 2000, and both have successful big screen careers. Catherine stood by Michael during his recent battle with cancer, while Michael has supported Catherine through her battle with bipolar disorder.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston
The couple have a famously long-lasting marriage in Hollywood – they've been going strong since tying the knot in 1991. They suffered the loss of their 16-year-old son, Jett, who suffered a seizure and died while they were on holiday in the Bahamas. They have a daughter, Ella Bleu (born in 2000) and a baby son, Benjamin, born in November 2010. John and Kelly have revealed that they often go to marriage counselling, and credit it for the success of their marriage. What with all the men crawling out the woodwork recently claiming to have been sexually assaulted by John over the years, we think those sessions may be on the increase.
Elton John and David Furnish
Sir Elton and David Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership in December 2005 after dating for 12 years. The couple co-produced the animated film Gnomeo and Juliet together and support a number of charities, including the Elton John Aids Foundation. They have two sons together through a surrogate mother: Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, who was born on 25 December 2010, and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John - born on 11 January 2013.
David and Victoria Beckham
The couple raise four children together - three sons, and the baby daughter they'd always longed for! They're also an insanely hard-working couple: Former Spice Girl Victoria has won praise for her design work and jets around the world for shows, usually with Harper in tow, while David has recently signed a five-month contract to play for French football club PSG. The best part? Big-hearted David is donating his entire salary to charity.
Beyonce and Jay-Z
They're regularly referred to as "hip-hop royalty" – but the couple, who married in 2008, keep their private life very, very private. The media was sent into a spin when Beyonce announced her pregnancy at last year's MTV Video Music Awards – and debate raged over when she was due and if she was, in fact, pregnant. Baby Blue Ivy was born on 7 January last year, and after a little time out the spotlight, Bee is back in a big way - performing at the Super Bowl halftime show this year and announcing her Mrs Carter Show world tour - named after hubby.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
How I Met Your Mother star Neil and his actor-turned-chef boyfriend David have been dating for almost nine years. The couple - who proposed to each other around 2006 - were waiting for gay marriage to become legal before they made their engagement public. The dads have twin children born via a surrogate mother - Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, who were born on 12 October 2010.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith
They're fast proving themselves to be the First Family in Hollywood – with even their children having successful careers. The couple – who tied the knot in 1997 and have in the past said that they have an "open" relationship – have two children together: Jaden and Willow. Jaden starred in The Karate Kid remake and appeared on the Justin Bieber track Never Say Never, while Willow has a successful recording career including the hit Whip My Hair. Dad and Jayden will soon reunited on the big screen for their film After Earth.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
One of the more "normal" Hollywood couples – though we use that term loosely here – Ben and Jen remain largely out of the spotlight. The married couple have two daughters together and a baby son, Samuel. Ben has spent the past few weeks rocketing around Hollywood picking up awards for his film Argo, while Jennifer has been a constant companion at his side - and a constant feature in his acceptance speeches. Our favourite moment? At the Golden Globes, when award presenter Jennifer thanked a few people that her husband forgot when collecting his best director award.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi
Talk show host and comedian Ellen married actress Portia at their home in August 2008. They live together with their three dogs and four cats. In August 2010, Portia petitioned to legally change her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres.
