It has been a year of celebrity shocks ? Michael Jackson, Chris and Rihanna, Oprah Winfrey ? and South African celebs kept themselves just as busy as their overseas counterparts in 2009.

We round up some of the best local skandaal of the past twelve months!

Khanyi Mbau and Mandla Mthembu divorce
Nobody really expected this to last. So-called 'Queen of Bling' Khanyi seemed to only be in it for the money, and when Mandla's bank balance dried up, Khanyi alleged domestic abuse... and by the time repossessions came along, she was nowhere to be seen.

However, in true gold-digger style, Khanyi managed to snage herself a mysterious rich Limpopo businessman who reportedly spent R4-million on her new black Lamborghini and is behind her new upmarket townhouse in Morningside Sandton.

She also made appearances on popular TV shows like 'Tropika Island of Treasure 2' and 'Big Brother Africa Revolution', started her own company and has launched her own website ? featuring her very own reality show.

Joost van der Westhuizen's tape
In February 2009, heat magazine produced a video of a man in tatty underwear and socks cavorting with a woman and snorting drugs. They were adamant the man in the video was rugby hero Joost van der Westhuizen ? who was the picture of marital bliss with wife Amor Vittone.

Joost denied the allegations until he was blue in the face, and threatened to find the people who had framed him.

It seemed that the video saga would disappear into the tabloid ether - until the beginning of November, where Supersport presenter Joost announced that it was, in fact, him in the tape with the former stripper. Oh, and here, you can read about it all in my book.

Minki van der Westhuizen divorces
One of South Africa's favourite beauties, legions of red-blooded local males contemplated throwing themselves off a bridge when the stunner married businessman Constant Visser in 2007.

The pair opened a restaurant in Stellenbosch, but it was closed down earlier this year.

In January, Minki and Constant posed naked along with other local stars for a Marie Claire spread against domestic violence. In the interview they enthused about how happy their marriage was ? but in November the pair decided to call it quits.

According to the publicist, the decision to divorce was "very friendly" ? if there is such a thing ? and Minki's apparently back on the market.

Danny K and Lee-Ann Liebenberg split (again!)
Who can actually keep track of this pair? The stunning Lee-Ann and pop-star partner Danny K had been on-and-off-again for around six years. After they announced their engagement, it seemed as though they had finally settled down. Lee-Ann was even rumoured to be converting to Judaism so they could marry.

And then they released a joint statement calling time on their relationship. Again.

But this time there was a sense of finality about their umpteenth breakup. One month later Liebenberg was spotted at the Style Awards ceremony in Sandton in the arms of her new boyfriend, polo player and businessman Nicky van der Walt.
