The Osbournes
I guess for many teenagers, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne (at least, as portrayed on their MTV reality show, 'The Osbournes') might seem pretty cool. Think about it. They swear like troopers, let their kids do pretty much whatever they want, and laugh everything off.
Ozzy is famed for his hard-partying days and his massive, public fight with drugs and alcohol. Sharon, who is a renowned music manager and a judge on a number of reality television shows, has said that her marriage to Ozzy was not without violence. She has been quoted as saying the couple, while high on drugs, used to "beat the sh*t" out of each other.
Strange then, that two of their three children fell off the rails in spectacular fashion.
Daughter Kelly Osbourne was a drug addict at age 13. She was admitted to rehab for an addiction to painkillers in 2004. Son Jack was drinking heavily by the age of 14, and spent time in a child psychiatric ward for an addiction to OxyContin. His drug abuse spiralled out of control after Sharon was diagnosed with cancer, and a while later he attempted suicide. He remains clean.
Michael Jackson
Before he became the King of Pop, Michael Jackson was a child star in the family group The Jackson 5, which was managed by his father Joe Jackson. According to Michael, Joe was physically and emotionally abusive at times, beating Michael when he couldn't hit particular notes, or when Joe felt the group's performance wasn't up to scratch. In an altercation described by Michael's brother, Marlon, Joe held Michael upside down by one leg and "pummeled him over and over again with his hand, hitting him on his back and buttocks."
Joe repeatedly tried to cash in on Michael's legendary solo career, and the controversy didn't stop after Michael's death. At the BET Awards on June 28, just days after Michael's death, Joe spoke to the press, reading a prepared statement and then started promoting his new hip-hop recording project.
Joe is also attempting to challenge the suitability of the executors named by his son before his death. Michael had written Joe out of his will. Joe has also attempted to claim a monthly allowance of over R100 000 from Michael's estate. Classy.
Lindsay LohanOh, where to start with Lindsay Lohan's family. After separating when she was three years old, Michael and Dina Lohan reunited, only to divorce in 2007.
In a 2007 interview, Lindsay said that during her childhood she had to step in to help raise her family and be a "second parent".
Michael has been in trouble with the law for a number of reasons, starting with a stint of four years in jail for fraud.
Michael pops up in the media to make scandalous claims every so often. He once claimed that Dina had been drinking and doing drugs with Lindsay, and he has recently (and very publicly) announced that Lindsay is battling an addiction to painkillers that have "trapped" her. He has also sold tapes of phone calls made regarding Lindsay, where he has discussed her personal problems with her mother and her personal assistant. He apparently believes this is meant to help her, somehow.
Dina, who currently stars in reality show 'Living Lohan' with Lindsay's younger sister Ali, has repeatedly claimed that Lindsay's problems are not her fault, and are the result of Lindsay's "personal choices". She has repeatedly been criticized for using Lindsay's fame to launch her own career.
