There are artists who have stood the test of time: The Beatles, Queen, The Rolling Stones, U2, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey... and then there are these guys.

The stars who shone brightly... so brightly, that they burnt out before they even began. We bring you some of the 'One Hit Wonders' from the 1970s all the way to the noughties... and got a whole range of very, very annoying songs stuck in our heads in the process...

Here they are, in (almost) no particular order...

'Ice, Ice Baby' - Vanilla Ice
Ah, Vanilla Ice. The song that sparked this feature. You've no doubt seen the Castle Lite advert (If you haven't, you can click here.) Vanilla Ice has become a pop culture icon, despite only being really famous for this one track. He has tried his hand at a number of other musical projects, but this number was the one that made his career.

'Who Let the Dogs Out' - Baha Men
This song was originally written for a float during Trinidad & Tobago's Carnival Season, before it was re-recorded for a group called the Baha Men. It was initially released as a song for 'Rugrats in Paris: The Movie', and it spread like a bad rash from there. In a Rolling Stone poll of the Top Ten Most Annoying Songs, this track ranked in third. (Interestingly enough, the top ranked song was 'My Humps' by the Black Eyed Peas).

'Land Down Under' - Men at Work
This iconic track pretty much defined a generation. It's a karaoke staple, a favourite of drunk solo artists (strangely enough around sports games) and a one hit wonder which has seriously stood the test of time. Some classic lyrics (Buying bread from a man in Brussels/ He was six-foot-four and full of muscles), and a fantastic advert for Vegemite, I feel.

'The Ketchup Song' - Las Ketchup
Aserejé ja de jé de jebe, tu de jebere sebiunouva, majabi an de bugui, an de buididipí! Ha, see I know the words! Okay, well, I googled them. And they're probably wrong. But still. Who can forget this track, which was just about on repeat on every radio station and music video channel in the world. Until they disappeared.

'Blue' - Eiffel 65
"I'm blue da boo dee da boo die and I'm in need of a guy da boo dee..." Ooh, the scandal. Subliminal messaging in music? It's like playing Chicago backwards and the devil is speaking to you. Riiiiight. Anyway, Eiffel 65 got us all a little blue with this track, and while they tried to recreate the success, they never quite managed it.

'Macarena' - Los Del Rio
"Da da da da da da da da HEY MACARENA! AI-YAI!" That is about the some total of the words that everybody knows... but hey, we all know the dance moves! Many of my dancing classes at school were ended with a rendition of the Macarena. Awesome. A true one hit wonder.
