What got me through the day:

Chatting to a fired up Gang of Instrumentals, energised by their imminent flight to Kenya for the MTV Africa awards and feeling confident that they'll be walking off with a MAMA. And having the interview turned on me as they filmed footage for their forthcoming DSTV reality show.

Coffee.

A lively aKING explaining how they survive on the road, the difference between drumming in English and Afrikaans, and dealing with fans who rush onto the stage (check back for the interview during the week).

Redbull.

Gang of Instrumentals teaming up with jazzy rockers Jacsharp for the evening's most unifying set.

A boerie roll.

Catching up with Goldfish's Dominic ? Ibiza, Brazil, Glastonbury, Australia, forthcoming remix album ? while we watched Gang of Instrumentals bounce across the stage.

A powerful set by aKING, effortlessly pulling out one hit after the other while the girls lining the crowd barrier hung onto every word.

Goldfish's closing set, turning the open air event into a giant club with extended improvised interpretations of hits like 'Fort Knox', accompanied by live vocals, their animated video backdrops and plenty of "wikky wikky wild wild west" button twiddling.

Trying to jump-start a car at 2.30am with one dead battery turning into two while a car alarm provided the unwanted soundtrack.

The best of the fest in words and pics:

Day 1: Robots, inflatable sharks and 2am car trouble

Day 2: Boardshorts, lilos, swimming and African dictators

Day 3: Can't stop the music
