Actor Shelton Barnes, who played Tinky Winky in the children’s television show Teletubbies, passes away at the age of 52.
Barnes, who was a trained ballet dancer and choreographer played the role of the purple Teletubbies character between 1997 and 200, was found frozen to death yesterday in a street in Liverpool.
According to reports, it appears the actor collapsed and died of hypothermia just four days after celebrating his birthday.
Barnes’character is mostly remembered for carrying a magic handbag on the children’s television show.
His grief-stricken niece, actress Emily Atack, took to social media posting a picture of her uncle saying: “My wonderful uncle Simon Barnes has been taken from us all so suddenly. The kindest and most talented man you could ever wish to meet. Loved by all who knew him, and will be forever. X”
According to media reports Barnes was reluctant to take on the role but in the end the risk paid off as he received fan mail from both kids and parents.
Barnes will be laid to rest on the 7th of February.
