The Banff Mountain Film World Tour showcases the efforts and talents of the world’s finest mountain filmmakers. Every year the Banff Centre in Canada receives hundreds of hopeful entries. These are narrowed down until only the very best films on Mountain Culture remain.
In 1986, the Banff Centre began an outreach programme to bring the tour to other communities across the world... and so the Banff Mountain Film World Tour was born.
Twenty years later, in 2006, Cape Union Mart first brought the Banff Mountain Film World Tour to South Africa, to Cape Town. 2007 saw Banff expand to Joburg and Pretoria. Now, a mere two years later, Cape Union Mart is proud to announce the inclusion of Durban in the Banff Mountain Film World Tour schedule.
The tour enables you to experience the adventure of climbing, base jumping, alpine skiing, kayaking, mountain expeditions, remote cultures, and the world’s last great wild places - all brought to life on the big screen.
The films that will be screened are 'The Red Helmet', 'Elements', 'Crux', 'Journey to the Center', 'Sharp End: Lisa Rands', 'All Day Everyday', 'Cliff Notes' and 'Sharp End: Eastern Europe'.
There will be one screening per day at 20:15. Each screening contains all 8 films, and the total length is approximately 2 hours 10 minutes.
Screenings will be held at five Ster-Kinekor cinemas across the country, Cavendish Square and Tygervalley Centre in Cape Town, Sandton City in Johannesburg, Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria and Gateway in Durban.
Bookings can be made through Ticketline on 082 16789 and electronically at www.sterkinekor.com.
