A Serbian Jewish organisation protested Friday at the presentation of anti-Semitic publications at the Belgrade Book Fair, Tanjug news agency reported.

At issue were two books by Serbian author Ratibor Djurdjevic, which the local Federation of Jewish Communities urged organisers to immediately withdraw from stalls at the fair.

"It's a bittersweet irony that, exactly at the time of this fair, its the 20th anniversary of the death of Italian writer Primo Levi, a Jew and victim of the Holocaust," Tanjug quoted a federation letter as saying.

"We demand the removal of all anti-Semitic books from stands at the fair and that mistakes like this don't happen again in the future," it added.

The letter was sent to the book fair's organisers, the Serbian Council for National Minorities, as well as the religion and culture ministries and local publishers, said the report.
