The Magic Flute – Impempe Yomlingo

Adapted and directed by Mark Dornford-May, and produced and presented by Eric Abraham, 'The Magic Flute – Impempe Yomlingo' comprises a company of 35 performers from Cape Town’s Khayelitsha township and offers an emotional, exuberant and uplifting version of Mozart’s hugely popular work.

Four gangsters get together and plan an intelligent but highly dangerous heist. Their plans go very wrong as emotions erupt and five men get killed in the process. Time is against them and they are forced to leave their getaway vehicle and set off
on foot with the police in hot pursuit.

Beauty and the Beast

This smash hit Broadway stage musical is produced in South Africa by Pieter Toerien and Hazel Feldman, in association with Disney Theatrical Productions. 'Beauty and the Beast' tells the "tale as old as time" of a young, spoiled prince who is transformed into a hideous beast because of his shallowness and selfishness, and has to learn to love another and earn their love in return to break the spell.

Wrestlers

The demons of alcohol and drugs challenge both father and son: John re-lives past wrestling triumphs, David tries to imitate those achievements and above all father and son wrestle with their inner demons.

Yellowman

Simply and evocatively told, 'Yellowman' is a visceral and searing indictment of prejudice as it explores a different shade of racism and offers a lyrical and brutal examination of the complexities of internalised prejudice. Set against the backdrop of the distinctive South Carolina culture known as Gullah, the title of the play refers to one of several derogatory childhood labels that have been hurled at lighter-skinned African Americans by those with darker skins.

Muslim doctor and a Jewish linguist. Shake well under the direction of David Kramer and you have 'Three Wise Men'. Marc Lottering, Riaad Moosa and Nik Rabinowitz, three of Cape Town's funniest sons, will be just the tonic you need, in an evening of comedy with a difference.

Rumpsteak

'Rumpsteak' is a one-man show about the everyday drama in a typical French restaurant. Speaking only French, and confining his movements to one square metre, Gaetan Schmid plays multiple characters. As if that isn't challenging enough, he uses no props. Instead, over 800 sound clips populate his performance and aid his transitions from one character to the next.
